Truth be told: I stole this idea from a facebook post. I know how quickly a copy-and-paste facebook post spreads, so chances are, you’ve seen this before. The post started liked this:
Pay it forward 2013! I promise to make something handmade for the first five people who comment…
And there is more to it, but that’s the only part I’m stealing.
It goes on with the “rules” and asks you to pay it forward and repost it, but of course. And I do adore the idea of paying it forward, but generosity is a beautiful thing all by itself… so, let’s save the angst for later.
Last year I faced some tough times in my personal life. But, I received a lot of support and encouragement from readers by way of comments and email. So, now, this is my way of giving a little somethin’ back and starting this year on a positive note.
I promise to make something handmade for the first 5 people who comment on this blog post.
- The “something handmade” will be artwork.
- I will use ink and watercolor.
- It will be on high quality 5×7 paper.
- I will email you a few questions, so I know your preferences.
- I will take my time and make it pretty. :)
You DO NOT have to pay it forward. Really. Nothing bad will happen to you if you don’t. Just leave a comment…
In your comment, answer this question:
- How are you creative? (For ex: I write… I paint… I sing… I knit…)
- If you have a website for your work, then share that too.
I look forward to your responses!

Hello,
I know I’m too late but I just discovered your site and loved it and wanted to connect. I create (and connect) through coaching, retreats, creativity workshops and trainings. I paint, I write, I sing – all of those more for fun than anything else.
I will continue to read you.
Thanks for sharing!
M
My link did not work
Appreciate you connecting, Mimi. Sounds like you spend a lot of time creating!
I write (fiction and poetry) and paint/draw (water mixable oils, coloured pencils, pencil, ink, crayons..) In fact I painted this afternoon and had a lovely time! Feel very blessed to be creative!
Nice! I’d love to read it sometime or see your work. If you have a site, let us know :)
I don’t keep as active on Facebook anymore, but my wife saw the pay it forward deal and told me all about it. She was thrilled with it, too. I love your modifications even more.
I’m a writer, and I’m really looking forward to spending a lot more focused time this year on actually writing – both fiction and non-fiction. My homebase is over at http://michaelwroberts.com.
Thanks!
We share the same goal :) Trying to take writing more seriously this year.
A beautiful idea! I like that there are no strings attached, like “you must share to enter”. I write and record songs- though it’s been over a year since I’ve done any new recordings. But I still consider myself to be a musician and therefore an artist. My music is at http://music.ethanwaldman.com
Thanks, Ethan. Yeah, I’m not a fan of strings attached to what seems like a good cause. Keep it simple :)
I think if I could have any talent/skill it would be musical – either singing or one of those people who naturally ‘get’ composing and putting notes and sounds together. I can play the piano and read sheet music, but it’s all very mechanical. If it’s not on the sheet music, forget it. So, I definitely admire what you do.
I’m commenting anyway even though you have 5 already because this is such a lovely idea and a sweet and wonderful thing to do. :-) Yay, Denise!
Thanks, Sarah! :)
What a wonderful adaptation of the Facebook post (which I saw!). And how generous of you!
I knit, quilt, sew (a bit), and write (some), primarily. I used to swing dance, too. I’d love to expand my creativity into cooking, photography, movement, gardening, and all kinds of other things — basically to start viewing more parts of my life as opportunities to be creative.
Thanks for being #5, Erin! And, geez.. you have a lot of creative skills! Very cool :)
Heh. I dabble in many but never really take the time to hone any one ;) If you’d asked me a year ago, I’d only have told you I knit. I’ve been working on recognizing creativity in more of what I do. I think lots of people are plenty creative…they just don’t recognize the ways in which it expresses itself for them.
And yay, thanks!
Very true, Erin. I think sometimes not recognizing it is about self-trust. I have moments like that.
That is a great idea Denise, and what a wonderful way to begin the new year. I hope I am one of the five lucky people to own one of your master pieces.
You are! Thanks for commenting :-)
We can trade food for art! I ship! I’d love to see your work. :)
Glad you commented, Shonna! And you’re #3 :)
What a delightful idea, Denise. Thank you for your generosity!
I garden, that’s how I’m creative. There’s almost limitless scope for creativity when you garden, and even more so when you add the constraints of weather and refusing to spend much!
Thanks for being second! I have never gardened. It seems like such a rewarding and peaceful hobby, besides being creative.
It’s very nice. It’s a long game as well as a short one, and fairly solitary, which is particularly good for me as I can hardly help being competitive. Plus, I get to integrate other skills: the creativity of using the stuff I find around here to build my projects, rather than buying stuff.
This is wonderful, Denise. I don’t know if I’m one of the first 5, but I would SO LOVE to hang something you created and designed on my wall, my friend! As you know, I’m a writer.
Keep on creating! M
You were the first, Maya! Thanks :)
This just made my day, Denise! I had a bit of a rough start this morning and now things are looking up! I’m so excited to receive something that you created. This is awesome.
Wishing you a good week my friend. ox
