Write Your eBook in 90 Days

“The question isn’t whether or not you should wait to be picked, the question is whether you care enough to pick yourself.”  -Seth Godin

On September 1, 2012 you could be a published author and it could take you only 90 days to do it.  It could.  But, you can’t wait to be picked.  You have to decide already, and pick yourself.

And you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

You could.  But you don’t have to.  Instead, you could join a community of writers that are working towards the exact same goal.

Michelle Ainslie has made it SO EASY to get the support, advice, tips, feedback, and the PUSH that you need to actually get that book published and on Amazon in Kindle format by September 1st.

Get the details HERE.

But, do you really need this kind of support to write a book?

No, BUT I probably wouldn’t even be blogging or writing without the power of support and accountability.  It all started with me choosing to be accountable by saying YES to a writing challenge a year ago, and accepting the support of lots of awesome writers.

And so, here we are today…
and writing is one of the best things I started doing.

So, I’m a firm believer in the power of support and accountability.

“You are creative.

You are a born writer.
You have a book in you.
You don’t need another writing class or another “how to” course.
You need discipline.
Plain and simple.”

~Michelle Ainslie

  1. I wrote ebooks for children. It was a great adventure. Now I have to sell it and I don’t know how to promote it. I have contacted some influent people to review my ebook but they did’nt answer.

I believe in my book. I want to give a message of love to childrem trough my booké

  2. hey Denise! i think there is a hidden creative writer in each and every human being. But strong will is required to bring it out. By the i had many thoughts of writing my own E-book but couldnt find time due to my college works. But now i am free in these summer holidays and after reading your post i think i will be able to write an E-Book in less than 90 days. Fabulous post, keep it going.

  3. Now you’ve got me tossing the idea around in my head…
I got to talking with an old friend a week ago, and he did bring that up too. I hope I come up with worthwhile material. I need more confidence, I think :)

    • I hope you join in :) look down to Michelle Ainslie’s comment below.. she had some insightful things to say about how to choose a topic.

  4. Hi Denise,

I’m pretty sure I have a book in me and I hope it’s less than 500 pages. It’s not necessarily a goal or dream of mine to be “published” but I think I could help folks by writing a book about, heck, a whole host of topics.

I wouldn’t expect to dive into writing a book until next year at the earliest but I can’t think of too many things that would be more rewarding than starting (and finishing) one.

    • 500 pages might take longer than 90 days, lol. But, that’s just a guess :)

Now that you mention it, I wouldn’t say that being “published” is a dream of mine either. I just love writing – published or not. I feel that it’s more about what you mentioned – the reward of starting and finishing, but it’s more rewarding if my words reach those people that will resonate/benefit from them.

So glad you stopped by and commented, thank you!

  5. Wow! Thank you so much for this beautiful blog about my course, Denise :) I am so happy that you are part of the brilliant group of writers starting on 4 June.
I am also so humbled and giddy with happiness at all the comments.
I just know that there are books in each and every one of you that are destined to be written. Even if you don’t join my course, promise me that you will keep writing and that you will get it out there.
The world needs what you have to say, in the way that only you can say it.
What you should write about (your topic) is the one thing that you are burning most to share right now. The thing that is writhing in your heart, pushing and shoving to be set free. Write THAT.
I am looking so forward to working with the creative go-getters who have already signed up. It’s going to be phenomenal. And on 1 September we will be rocking Amazon!
Keep dreaming BIG, enormous dreams :)
    Love to all
    xx

    • My pleasure :) Thanks to you for putting together this opportunity. I know, from experience, that it helps to have support and set specific goals like this… it’s always worked well for me, so I felt impelled to share your course with my readers.

Just another week or so, looking forward to it!

      Appreciate that you stopped by!

  6. i go back and forth with this one. should i or shouldn’t i?! what subject matter should the book address? i wrote my first e-book in 2009, but no longer market it. decisions…decisions.

    looking forward to seeing yours!

    • Hmm… go with your gut.

If you decide to give it a try, think about topics that get you excited, that you could go on and on about…

when do people come to you for advice? do people see you as knowledgeable/experienced on a certain topic?

could you write a memoir about a life changing experience in your life? or any other part of your life?

      poetry, a children’s book, a novel….

OK, I’m done rambling ideas, lol. Hope that helps :)

  7. I so need to do this! Once the tiny house project is done (this summer), I’ll have way more time for writing. Thanks for sharing it!

  8. I’m so tempted to join in and then try to make up the first month once I’m on my sabbatical….. Slightly insane, but this looks like an awesome course and at a really awesome price point.

  9. What a coincidence! I’m writing this summer too. September’s supposed to be the best time to publish, too. Just in time to get bought as Xmas gifts.

    • Good point about holidays! Glad you’re writing this summer too.. looks like we’ll all be in this together in one way or another :)

  10. That is a pretty cool idea Denise.

Okay so a while back I decided I wanted to write a book. I signed up for a one night class on how to write a novel in less than a week. It was a great class, she shared with us the basics of your outline and how to go about it. Seemed pretty simple really but I never wrote that book.

Now that everyone is publishing books to Kindle, I know I’d love to do that too but I still have trouble coming up with a topic. People think I’m nuts, I know, but I still struggle with that.

Sounds like a great commitment though for everyone who is ready to take that plunge. having a community there with you is the best way to approach that.

Thanks for sharing this and you definitely got my mind to going, again!

    ~Adrienne

    • Thanks, Adrienne! Although, it is Michelle Ainslie’s idea… I just joined the party :)

Judging by the articles you post on your site, I’m sure you have lots of insight worth publishing, but I know what you mean – still have to pick a topic to focus on if you’re going to write a book. I’m still bouncing around ideas.

      Thanks for your comment :)

  11. When I saw this the other day I got so excited! I love this idea! Thank you for sharing this with us, Denise.
Sidenote: I have been admiring your site for the past 15min. ;) It looks beautiful and is really well laid out. Nice work!

  12. I’m forwarding this to my friend. She is in the beginning stages of starting her e-book. Thanks for sharing.

  13. I love both quotes. I think we’re all full of creative ideas and projects, the hard part it getting them out into the world:)

    • So true. I deal with tons of fear anytime I put stuff out there… especially artwork. I’ve gotten fairly comfortable with putting my writing out there, but artwork has been a bigger struggle for me.

  14. I do:) The biggest struggle is time, then feeling qualified…
    Love the Seth Godin quote.

p.s. I really adore your logo at the top, the heart light bulb is perfect.

  15. Okay…. I have always felt that I had a book in me. But now I find myself wondering what would I write about, and would anyone care about the topic. Honestly, right now I would like to start with getting published in a magazine and go from there. I guess I need to find the direction for my writing……kind of like the blog. lol

    • lol, I hear ya! I’m still tossing around 3 or 4 ideas, but leaning strongly towards one, for this 90 day ebook project. I have about a week to decide!

At least you write regularly. If you keep up with the consistency, a book is bound to come out sooner or later!

And writing something that people care about matters, I think about that too, but I’ve found that too often that stops me from writing about something *I* really care about. Not saying that’s true for you… it’s just MY personal weakness, and the best way I overcome it is by putting stuff out there, anyways.

To me, the direction of your blog is realism meets optimism. You keep it real, you don’t sugar coat life, but you see the silver lining, the humor, the blessings. That’s an AWESOME direction :)

  16. Denise, aloha. So glad you found my blog so that I found yours. To me it makes so much sense to have a support group to write a book. Heck, for most any endeavor it’s great to have a support group.

Seth is doing so much to make people aware of how easy it is to get published. All you have to do is do it. As it happens, I am taking “Blog to Book” course which some other bloggers I know. We have our own fb group so it is nice to be able to chat there.

Best wishes to everyone who joins you in this endeavor. Thanks for connecting us. Aloha. Janet

  17. I do have a book in me. It’s geared more toward kids, but it’s still a book. I know it’s just an excuse but I really don’t have time since the kids are on summer vacation. Sigh.

    Hugs and Mocha,
    Stesha

    • No, I greatly empathize. I struggle to write one or two blog posts a week because I have to give so much attention to my kids. If you need any support when you do start writing I’d be happy to help :)

      • Not sure how old your kids are, but when I was writing last summer, my stepkid was writing too. He wrote a ghost story set a in a school. Now he thinks if professional hockey doesn’t work out he might become an author. :D

        • Too cute :)

My son is 5, my daughter is 2. Neither are in school yet.. but, if I’m working on a project like this, or similar, I know I have to commit to waking up early or staying up late.

  18. Oooh love this so much!! I think I definitely have a whole bunch of books in me, it’s just like you said – getting up the… whatever-it-is to just do it! My brain is an expert at excuses. One day I’m distracted with a different, ‘better’ idea, another I’m second-guessing my authority level. Will people take me seriously? This is too hard. Ugh how am I going to sell this? Do I want to sell this? This feels too big. I don’t feel like doing this anymore. Maybe tomorrow/next month/next year. There are too many details I don’t know so I’m just not going to do anything. etc. etc. etc.

I think in situations like these, group support systems can be great, or even just one other person — a life coach, therapist, friend, anybody to hold you accountable and be the ‘loving nag’ that asks you “hey can I see the chapter you told me you’d finish by the end of today?”

    • Ohh, I make those excuses ALL the time.. don’t feel bad. We all do a little bit, I think… some more than others (I fall into that “some” category) :P

Anyways, that’s why I jumped on this opportunity to get some support. In the past, this type of support has been VERY effective for me, so I’m pretty excited about getting started :)

  19. This is a good idea. I started to write my ebook but stopped because this magazine was taking over. Since I don’t have to take my kids to school this summer I might start back on my book. I am trying to see if it will be too much on me but hey I am young I think I can handle it.
