To the mall

I took quick advantage of having a car again yesterday and took Caitlin to the mall to go to the play area.

We’d never done this because of the fact that we’ve only gone to the mall on Saturday and Sunday nights and it was always filled with children who definitely exceed the 42″ maximum height and looked like they would eat her for breakfast along with their cocoa puffs.

So we’ve always passed it up, while she stared longingly at the large foam tree and listened to the screeching laughter of the other monsters children. Guilt has always eaten me alive by this.

I made plans to take her there yesterday and after getting the three of us cleaned and ready, off we went, just us. Just me. And two kids. Under two.

A couple of names

In the spirit of Taking a Breather From the Hellish Land of Statistics Assignment and Study, here are two names I am loving at the moment.

Atticus

This name is gaining some popularity; birth announcements occasionally surprise me. However, the most frequent comments made by people who wouldn’t use the name is “It sounds too literary”/”It sounds pretentious” or some combination of the two.

Most people who did high school English are aware of where this probably stems from: Atticus Finch, one of the characters in Harper Lee’s Too Kill A Mockingbird.

Halloween Brings Pumpkin Carving and Story Telling

It’s a tradition that on the day before Halloween, we turn a regular ole pumpkin into a Jack O’Lantern.

It was Petie’s turn this year.  He wanted to do something different he said, so our Mom went out and bought some magazines for him to get ideas from.

Well, he looked and he looked and he looked and, finally, he found just what he wanted to do.

He was a bit nervous doing this himself, so Tricia and I said we would be there to help (though Tricia stayed in the background, because she didn’t want to get covered in pumpkin goop when it was time to take out the insides).
